Privacy policy
Last updated 31 October 2026. Applies to the Pixelfold app for iPhone and iPad, and to this website.
What stays on your device
- The topics and sources you follow, what you've liked, your magazines, topics or sources you've muted, and your settings (text size, appearance and so on).
- A saved copy of recent stories (headlines, pictures and short excerpts) so the app works offline.
- A private "interests" score built from what you like and open, used only to order your For You feed. It never leaves your device and isn't synced.
Removing the app removes all of this from your device.
Signing in is optional
You can read as a guest. If you choose Sign in with Apple, the app stores your Apple user identifier, and your name and email if you share them, on your device. Your follows, likes, magazines, mutes and settings are then synced between your devices using iCloud key-value storage. That data lives in your iCloud account, managed by Apple. We have no access to it. If you hide your email with Apple's relay, we never see your real address.
Our server
The app talks to our server at pixelfold.chronoarm.com for one purpose only: when you delete a signed-in account. Apple requires apps to disconnect the Sign in with Apple link at that point. The app sends a one-time confirmation code that Apple just gave it; our server uses it to ask Apple to revoke your sign-in, then discards it. We don't store the code, any token, your Apple identifier, your name or your email. Our logs record only whether a request succeeded, not who made it or what it contained. To protect the service from abuse, an in-memory counter of recent requests per network address is kept for under a minute.
Other sites you reach through the app
Pixelfold shows headlines, pictures and short excerpts from retro gaming websites and links to the original articles. Your device contacts those sites directly to download their feeds, pictures and articles, so, as with any browser, each site can see your IP address and device details under its own privacy policy. We don't receive that information. Reader View and the in-app web view load the publisher's page on your device. A sponsored post fetches its product details from the advertiser's shop in the same way. Sponsored posts are always labelled, and the advertiser receives nothing about you from us. You can turn them off in You.
All articles, names and pictures belong to their publishers. If you're a publisher and would like your site removed, please contact us using the link below and we'll remove it promptly.
What we do not collect
- No analytics or usage tracking, and no advertising identifier.
- No location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera access.
- No third-party advertising or analytics code in the app.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports. These contain no personal details.
Deleting your data
- Signed in: You › Delete account & all my data. Confirm with Apple, and the app removes your data from this device and iCloud and disconnects Pixelfold from your Apple ID.
- Guest: the same button clears everything stored on your device.
- You can also remove Pixelfold's Apple sign-in at any time in Settings › your name › Sign in with Apple.
Your rights
Because we don't hold your personal data on any server, you can already view, change and delete it yourself in the app and in iCloud. If you're in the UK, EU or elsewhere with data protection rights and have a question or request, contact us through the link below.
Children
Pixelfold isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change, and the app will link to the current version.
